Great little notepad with a pen holder.... Tutorial.

So I had a bunch of those little notepad cubes laying around and I had to use them for a project. Here's a great little notepad that has a pen holder attached to it. I'll show you step-by-step on how to make this quick and easy little project.

For this project I used: Old Olive and Whisper White Paper, and the new DS Designer paper from the Spring Mini. I also used the "Polka Dots and Paisley" stamp set, my white gel pen and Olive organdy ribbon.

So let's get started:
1. First cut a piece of cardstock 3" wide by 7" long. Decorate. I used the Petals jumbo wheel, as I like that it coordinates nicely with this stamp set.
2. Score this paper at 3" then again at 3⅜", then again at 3¾".

3. Next, we have to make two little cuts. Use Scissors, it's easier than using a paper cutter. Make a slit from the 3" score to the 3¾" score. See the picture for a close-up. If you click on it, it will enlarge.
4. Fold the middle part of the area you just cut outwards so it forms a pocket to put your pen in. See the diagram again. I then fastened down the top flap and the bottom flap with a staple to secure where the pen will stay. Again, click on the photo for a close-up.

5. So now, we have the basic package for the notepad. Here I've added in the notepad. I used a lot of double-sided tape to adhere it to the back panel. I also decorated the pad with a little flower similar to the one on the front.
6. With the inside finished, I started on the outside. I used a piece of Olive Organdy ribbon which is 18" long and tied it around the package to keep it shut. This ribbon is not secured on... when I add on the top piece it will be taped on. However, I'm sure that you can use a few glue dots or crystal effects to adhere the ribbon. I then put in the little pen (I picked these up at Staples... 12 for $1.99... and they are very short).

6. To finish off this project, I just embellished the front. I used a 2¼"x2½" piece of designer paper layered under a 2"x2¼" piece of Whisper White Paper. The white paper has been shaded with a sponge and the Old Olive ink to give it's border a little more definition. TO line up the flower and the word "happy" I used my stamp-a-ma-jig as I was feeling a little perfectionist this morning. For the flower, I did use two different markers to achieve the stem and petals in a different colour. Have fun making a bunch of these for yourself.
