Making a tile wall hanging

At a recent fundraiser, this was one of the projects that I taught. I think that it makes a nice and quick little gift for someone. Since Mother's Day is coming up, I thought it would be nice to tell the steps on how to make this.

First, I bought a sheet of bathroom tiles from Home Hardware and cut off all of the little rubber pieces that held it together. I didn't coat the tile with anything. I stamped the flowers in black stazon, then I masked them. I stamped the french script background in Classic Chocolate Chip ink, then sponged the sides. Next, I used my pastels to shade in the flowers. Note: for the white I did put a base using a versamarker so it would "pop" off the tile. Then, I sprayed it lightly with two coats of a clear acrylic spray (I use Krylon).

For the back, I used crystal effects to attach the ribbon. So it didn't look so choppy, I covered the back with Sahara Sand cardstock squares that were the same size as the tile. Now the tiles that I used were about $4 for a sheet and I was able to make about 9 of these from one sheet.

That is an awesome idea. I was reading thinking, is there a way to take black and white photos, burned around edges and put those on there with some journaling..then would you use that spray over that or a special one to preserve the photo?

These are a cute idea. What size are the tiles?
Thanks for sharing.

The tiles are 2"x2" and I got them at home depot. All of the tiles are bathroom floor tiles. They come attached to each other on a grid of rubber. If you use an Xacto knife, you can very easily get the rubber off.
