This was the funnest and messiest tutorial I've done. I really wanted to do Rachel's footprints myself in our baby book instead of paying the hospital. I mean seriously - I have way more ink than they do! So here's how we stamped her footprints for any other new moms who would like to do it themselves:
Step 1: We set aside a time when Rachel was fairly sleepy so she wouldn't squirm as much. This seemed to help for the first foot only. Next - we counted (she does have ten tiny toes!). I also suggest to do this right before bath-time so you can wash the ink off right away.
Step 2: Apply classic ink to the baby's feet. Only do one foot at a time. It's a good idea to do this on a blanket that you don't mind getting inky, and in an outfit that you don't mind getting ink on. The classic ink washes off completely fine with Johnson's baby wash. It came out of the outfit, blanket and off her very easily.
Step 3: We did a trial-run of her footprint on paper. I wanted to make sure that the foot was inked well... and I also figured that if we stamped in the book and it didn't turn out well, that I could just put these footprints over top of the ones in the book. This way, I wouldn't have to repeat the process of inking her later.
The finished foot. We did the other foot immediately after this, however she was a little squirmy at that point.
*A tip for doing the handprints: do it when they're asleep as she kept trying to put her hands in her mouth.
