Welcome to our 2012 My Digital Studio Blog Hop! Our theme this week was to make something with the theme winter fun. Now, I'll be honest, I just didn't have time because I've been so busy working on finishing up my Christmas Album because I want to send it to the printer's this week. So I've decided to show off a Christmas page instead. When I send off albums to the printers, I will include most of the layouts you see on my blog but because I take SO MANY photos at big events, I will often include pages like this one that have large amounts of photos on them yet simpler embellishments on them - more bang for the buck at the printers, really.

MDS Blog hop - a fantastic sketch was our inspiration!

Mandy challenged us to do a sketch this week for the MDS blog hop. I was so massively excited to see the sketch, from one of my favourite sketch websites (www.pagemaps.com). If you want to see the sketch click here. It's the 4th sketch from the top.

When I saw the sketch I immediately saw laundry hanging on a line... and I knew that I had some photos that would fit in perfectly with that theme... so here's my layout that looks relatively nothing like the sketch, but pulls a lot of inspiration from it. Abigail was only 6 weeks old here - it's so hard to believe that this is the same little peanut that is learning to clap her hands, climb stairs and is attempting to walk. Oh man, where did this year go?

Today, I turned the camera over to Rachel to help me with my Project 365. She's getting pretty good at focusing the camera, but some photos are still blurry. These photos were from our walk. When Rachel has a bunch of energy we like to get her out in the fresh air - she was at her friend Shylee's 5th birthday and was hopped up on cake - so we brought her out for a walk.

Welcome to our first 2012 My Digital Studio Blog Hop! Our theme this week was to make something with a new MDS download. There were a few great downloads to choose from this Tuesday, and I chose the one with all of the pretty hearts called "My Cute Valentine". I love the embellishments and the stamps that came with this set - impressed!

Now, I've been working on a Scrapbook Project 365. Basically, I want to capture this year in 365 layouts so I will be posting a layout each and every day with photos that I took that day. Our little Abigator is getting ready to walk. It's so exciting to see her take risks. I can't wait! Rachel didn't crawl at all and she didn't start walking until she was 14 months old - but Abigail is just a little speed demon. She started crawling the day after she was 6 months old, and she's been creeping up and down our couch and table for weeks now. She'll be walking soon - at just over 9 months. Yikes!

Day 2: Abigail hanging out in her crib

This is going to be page 2 in my project 365 Scrapbook album. My goal is to capture the daily life of our family and bind the pages into a book. Abigail is 9 months old. How did that happen so quickly? She's growing up so fast - and growing out of things even faster. I had to pack away another box of clothes that she doesn't fit into and I had a little breakdown. It was so hard putting away clothes knowing that there won't be any more babies in our household.

This was like a dream come true for us. Our family grew by one this year and we got to celebrate Abigail's first Christmas. We've longed for another baby for so long and it was a dream celebrating this holiday with her. Love you Abigator!

Our tradition: new ornaments to symbolize the year

Each year we buy new ornaments for the tree that capture the big things from the last year. Our biggest thing was the birth of Abigail - so we got her a "baby's first" ornament and we also got a "close knit sisters" ornament. The Tinkerbell ornament symbolizes Rachel's love for fairies. She loves flying around the house in wings, has all of the movies and dolls, and even had a Tinkerbell 4th birthday party. The last ornament, Rudolph, is all about our weekend tradition. Back in the summer we started a weekend tradition of popping in Rudolph (yeah, in the summer, LOL), poping popcorn and drinking hot chocolate. It became something we all looked forward to - an evening on the couch watching our movie, eating our snack and sipping on hot chocolate. So, those are our 2011 ornaments and I love every one of them because of what they mean for us this year.

Rachel's birthday party last weekend was a lot of fun. She had a bunch of girlfriends from JK and her daycare over. When they started to eat - this is the mayhem they got into. It was actually hilarious and they were having so much fun so we let them indulge. This is what happened. Ooops! Where did the adorable little girls go that we invited over?? I laughed so hard. I'm sure when they're 17 I'll break out these photos and embarrass the pants off them.

Abigail's first Halloween - my adorable little butterfly!

Our little peanut's first Halloween was quiet. I had minor surgery that morning so wasn't able to take the kids out trick-or-treating. Jamie stayed home with me to hand out candy with the baby, and Papa took Rachel out to all of the neighbours. They both looked so incredibly adorable.

For all of the MDS fans, this layout is a template that comes with the "Wicked Fun" download. All I did was pop in the photos.

Case'ing Holly VanDyne

When I saw Holly VanDyne's layout back in September I just loved it so I knew that I'd be copying it. I always copy layouts that I like so I have my own version of them - I think of it as a very high form of flattery. Well, this is my take on Holly's layout.

The photos were taken this afternoon and I had to scrap them right away. Rachel turned four on Wednesday and we had a surprise birthday party today with all of the girls in her Junior Kindergarten class. Keeping it a surprise was a task - I took Abigail and Rachel to the Children's Museum all morning while Jamie decorated with balloons, streamers, butterflies, ladybugs, birds, banners and more. The house looked fan-tas-tic. All of her friends came over and they got fairy wings, fairy wands and flowers for their hair. They looked so CUTE! When Rachel came home she was beyond surprised and just radiated excitement the whole day. They all made fairy names - some were tinkerbell, heartbell, silverfawn, pixie and one was even stinkerbell (thankfully not Rachel, LOL). They made bead necklaces, coloured Tink photos with their Tink crayons and also went on a Pirate Treasure hunt. The cake was beautiful. Tonight she crashed pretty quickly. It was so amazingly fun. Amazingly fun.

MDS Blog Hop - a fun Halloween Scrapbook layout

Welcome to our SUPER SCARY My Digital Studio Blog Hop! I've joined up with a bunch of other Stampin' Up! Halloween Scrapbook layout using the "Cast-a-Spell" designer papers

I wanted to capture some photos of the fun Halloween Pajamas that we scooped up for Abigail at Old Navy. Seriously - aren't they awesome! And, they glow in the dark. This was a very quick spread to make and I still have to journal a few things on it. But for now, I love it as is. It was sure nice to be able to get some scrapbooking done. Abigail's first two teeth have finally come in so we're actually getting some sleep again which is lovely. She's also rocking back and forth on all fours so she'll be crawling soon - oh how time flies!

Demonstrators, Digital Divas, to show you a bunch of great Birthday themed projects that have all been made with the My Digital Studio software. This was a challenge that I was so excited for! Rachel's first birthday was ladybug themed and I had the best idea for a layout planned...

but where were those ladybug photos stored in the computer - every photo is always filed into a folder according to month? So I searched... and I searched... and I searched some more... then I started to get a little lump in my throat. Kept searching... checked the other computer... checked our external hard drive... that lump was getting bigger. But I have them all stored (meticulously catalogued by month)... and surely there's some mix-up - isn't there? In fact, while looking for the cute lady bug birthday photos I am thinking to myself... where is the whole "October 2008" file? Now, I'm more than concerned, and yes a quite freaking panicked.

gulp... and I

whisper to myself:

Oh. No. I. Couldn't. Have.

could I have? Tears streaming down my face... I realize that they're gone. Completely. The whole folder is gone. Her whole first birthday. That whole month. Her Halloween. Her first haircut. So... I took a day to compose myself and figure - get a grip we will eventually locate them. There are benefits to having an IT professional for a husband... and hopefully he's got some magical powers that can find the files (despite me not being able to find anything in the backup systems).

So let's get scrapping and on with the birthday theme. We'll just do a different layout... but, um... where's the "October 2009" folder? Where's my girl's second birthday photos? They're not in the 2009 folder... there just is no folder labelled October any more. ugh. Maybe they've been moved... so I search every single folder I have and... nope, they're missing. Surely, I can not be T-H-E most rotten horrible mother who has lost not only her first birthday photos but also her second birthday photos. facepalm. A raging panic sets in - I search frantically for her 3rd birthday photos and thankfully they are there... so I here's what I have to show off for this weeks blog hop...

On this layout I used the Nursery designer Papers for the background paper. I used tons of brads on the layout in colours that coordinated with my photos. The font that I used on this layout is called "Quirkus". It's a simple layout that has a lot of photos which, at this point, I am just grateful I have.

My Digital Studio - MDS Blog Hop - Back to school theme.... Waaaay back

Welcome to our first My Digital Studio Blog Hop! I've joined up with a bunch of other Stampin' Up! Demonstrators, Digital Divas, to show you a bunch of great "Back to school" themed projects that have all been made with the My Digital Studio software. Since I don't have any school aged children I chose to go WAAAY back to school - the photos I chose were from a visit to an 1888 Replica Classroom that I took a few weeks ago at our Local Children's Museum.

Back to School scrapbook layout

When Rachel and I arrived at the Classroom she was awestruck. She's starting school in September and loved to be able to sit in a desk, see the old chalkboard and flip through the old books. She had a thirst to know what everything on the pages were - it was an old dictionary from 1888 - and we went through the book until she was finished. It was so much fun to watch her flip through it. Her classroom in September won't look like this one at all, but it was wonderful to see how interested in school she is.

Downtown Grunge kit

Recipe for this layout:
On this layout I used the Downtown Grunge kit for the background paper, the designer paper accents, the antiqued photo mattes and the digital tape. The kit is fantastic. I also used crochet trim ribbon along the bottom. I used the label from the stamp brush set "Certified". I used the picker tool to colour match the label and the text to the designer papers. The font that I used on this layout is called "Veteran Typewriter".

It's been an emotional few days

Abigail and I are enjoying our last week together while I'm on maternity leave. On Monday I'm heading back to work and Jamie is taking parental leave. It's bittersweet. I'm excited to go back, yet missing her even though I haven't left yet. There's been lots of tears and I'm just soaking up these last few days with my baby girl.

This is the cover for a journal that I designed for my girlfriend Trish. Her daughter Samantha is heading off soon to her 1st year at York University and she wanted to give her a journal to record her experiences, from the simple little things to the big events. This is a great idea - I really don't even remember what my first year at UWO was like - all of the years are now blurred into each other and I would have loved to have written down what daily life was like. I've met Sam a few times and I know that this is right up her alley!

I was asked to make this custom baby journal for a friend who will be having a new addition to their family next month. It's a beautiful journal that has the baby's name, Jackson, on the front as well as the dates of his first year: Aug 2011 Aug 2012. I wish that I would have had something like this when I had Rachel - there is just so much I forget about the first year I was a Mom and this would have been wonderful to keep it all written down. I used to love keeping a journal. What a cool gift! It's going in her baby shower basket and I hope that the Mom-to-be likes it.

Since we've brought home our second daughter, my oldest has become a "mama's girl" and craves (read: demands in a voice that can only be described as shrill) all of the attention from me that she can get. Unfortunately she is in a phase of "I don't want Daddy, I want Mommy" which is tiring for me, and really rough on him. This photo captures a small breakthrough and I'm hoping that it's the end of this phase.

Oh baby girls look so cute in blue! A 12x12 scrapbook layout with 7 photos

Having two girls, we have a LOT of pink and purple in our household. Rachel's room is a purple room decorated in a Tinkerbell theme and Abigail's room is pink with a butterfly theme. We have so much pink and purple clothing that when I want to dress them in something special, I'll grab any non-girly colours. Abigail has a few beautiful blue outfits and a cute chocolate brown outfit and I just love them - they bring out her eyes. This is a great layout to capture seven photographs - don't you think?

Something subtle that I did on this layout:
For the jewelery tag punch, I wanted it to show the designer paper "through" the eyelet that I put on the punch... so I just added in a circle punch and filled it with the same designer paper that I wanted to see... and it looks like there is a hole now through the eyelet. It's an easy way to make it look like there's a hole through the eyelet.

When Abigail was 3 months and two days old she rolled over. I thought it was a fluke. Then she did it again and again and again. Oh man. Before I know it she's going to be crawling. I'm excited that I was here for it though as I'm heading back to work next month and I thought that this would be a milestone I missed. I had to snap some pics of her - aren't those eyes lovely?? 9 fun things we did on our 9 days of Vacation

We pulled Rachel out of daycare for a week, giving us nine fun days to play together. It was a ton of fun and we had a blast going to Storybook Gardens, Berry picking, visiting with family, going to parties and picnics and the Museum. She was tuckered out after each day and actually had 2 hour naps most days. This was the first time Rachel really got to spend a whole week at home with Abigail and she really grew as a big sister: helping, singing, and entertaining the baby. It was a wonderful week and I can't wait to do it all again.

Travel Scrapbook layout - our trip to the Dominican Republic

These photos were from my first trip out of North America - to the Dominican Republic. I was a teenager and we spent two wonderful weeks there. I loved it so much and was so thankful for the time we spent there.

The layout has room for 12 photos. I used a sheet of background paper from the "One great year" kit and altered it to suit the colour scheme of my layout. I placed a 12x12 square punch over the background paper - filled it with Pacific Point card stock, then I set the opacity to 20%. This way the DSP still showed up and it was a colour that I thought went better with the layout. This is a great way to alter designer papers to fit your layout.

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Canada Day yesterday - we did... well until a trip to the emergency room. My older daughter had an extremely high fever, and a heartbeat of 157, so she spent a few hours up at emerg. Bummer - but she's feeling better today. She was so excited that her Grandpa and Grandma came in to town because she hasn't seen them since Christmas. She got lots of love and cuddles.

I have no idea how my oldest daughter grew up so fast in front of me! She's graduating pre-school tomorrow and will start Junior Kindergarten in the fall. I had to take a few moments to record her experiences at the pre-school just so I don't forget them - who her teachers were, what they did, what she learned, and all of the friends that she's made. Her friends are so cute and have started coming over for play-dates which is so fun! I love having a house full of little kids, but it's sure nice when they all go home. LOL!

Well, our youngest little miss has been smiling for a few weeks now and I caught one of the first ones on camera! It was just adorable! Today, I'm getting the video camera cued up because I feel a giggle coming on... she's going to laugh any time now and I want it on film.

Hope that you don't mind more photos of my wedding. This was the only single event that I had enough photos to put into an album. I need to get married again - think Jamie will go for it? Anyways, here's the 24 templates that come in the kit. I am posting them in the "raw" format that they come in meaning that I haven't added anything extra to them. This is so you can get a good idea of what you're buying. Please note that 5 of these "templates" are actually just a blank page with designer paper on it. No idea why that is called a "template" because that's a little misleading, but whatev - it's still a smoking cool kit. Here it is:

Computer issues - no sketches

Well, some pretty annoying computer issues occurred here and it led me to be unable to access my MDS software for days. Jamie thinks that he has the issue under control now, but he's pretty steamed at the fact that our computer was under quarantine for 5 days. Hence, no sketches for the last few days in May. Hope that you enjoyed the sketches and that they brought you inspiration. I'm now going to return to posting sketches on Saturdays.

The large scallop square needs to have the DSP resized in order to fit - just fill it with DSP, then double click the scallop square and choose the "zoom in" feature until it is filled properly. I can't get over how much I ADORE the green tea designer papers!

I duplicated and mirrored this layout to create the 2nd page. So simple and I just swapped out the photos. I did have some journaling on the layout on one of the designer blocks (but removed it for privacy reasons).
